The fence was constructed of 4-strand barbed wire and is approximately 1000 feet in length. The average setback for this project was 15-20 feet. Again, a mixture of native hardwoods was planted within the fence. Both sides of the creek were fenced. Beaver creek is unique in the fact that it is not tide-gated and most of the channel has remained un-altered (it has not been ditched or diked). Furthermore, the CWA worked with this landowner to create an off-channel pond from a small spring fed tributary to Beaver Creek. This pond was excavated, and then the banks were mulched, seeded and planted with a mixture of native hardwoods and wetland plants. Marshfield High School students have surveyed the pond and coho, cutthroat, stickleback and dace have all been observed using it. The landowner is also interested in increasing the size of this pond and creating a more diverse habitat there.
