Mainstem Riparian Project

This project constructed approximately 11,000 feet on fencing along the mainstem of the Coquille River. The fence was a mixture of woven wire (in less flood prone areas), and 4-strand barbed wire. The average setback from the river was over 50 feet. Trees were planted along the riparian area in spots where the existing riparian buffer was lacking. The existing riparian buffer consisted of mostly Myrtle, alder and spruce. The CWA planted a mixture of spruce, cedar, and ash in areas where it was needed. The water system for this project consisted of installing 3 bathtubs, and a gravity feed system from a spring originating on a hill near the fence site. Bathtubs were used because the property floods during the winter and they would be less likely to float away than typical stock tanks.
