South Fork Riparian Fence Project

southFk-193-fence-03.jpg

This project consisted of constructing approximately 6,770 feet of 4-strand barbed wire. The livestock being excluded from the riparian area in this project were horses and cattle combined. The average set-back was 30 feet. Two off-channel watering sites were installed, which consisted of a gas pump and two 300 gallon stock tanks. This project was completed in cooperation with a NRCS/SWCD farm plan. The Coos SWCD assisted the landowner in developing a plan to better utilize the property for grazing, run-off management, etc. The CWA constructed the fence in accordance with this farm plan. The landowner also assisted with the project design, site preparation, and completed all installation/construction of the off-channel water system. The landowner will also be responsible for all fence maintenance for the life of this project (10 years). This includes materials and labor. This project was planted lightly due to the fact that the riparian area was mostly intact.
